MEANING OF HONOR SOCIETIES
Honor society is a ranking organization that aims at recognizing excellence in people who are perceived to be within a given peer group. It is very normal to have various field through which students can perform better in such as in sports and academic disciplines. Upon the realization that certain people have excelled in a particular discipline, the relevant societies that are associated with that field of activities find it convenient to involve the best performers to be part of them. They, therefore, send invitation letters to the individuals who had excelled and enlighten them more on what they deal with in regards to the discipline. The students invited as a result of being of much input towards the contribution of the activities of the discipline that they are concerned with are on the other end promised to have their names featured in the list of those who have excelled in the field.
Honor societies that are termed as academic organizations usually tend to rely on the performance standards of various students in matters of academics. For example, the society will look into the results of students in a particular year with regards to a particular subject. The organization may therefore go ahead to invite that student who performed better as compared to the rest to join their society. There are a combination of color codes that are specific to various honor society groups. Consequently, the different kinds of outfits and robes that members of a particular society have to wear enables them to be associated with a particular group. Most of these special identification instruments are not availed to non-members. The honor societies may, however, decide to embark on the selling of its products to people who are not even part of the organization in a bid to raise money that will be used within the organization.
The presence of the honor societies goes across all levels of education standards ranging from high schools, universities and even the post-graduate levels of studies. Among all these levels, most honor societies involve of those groups that were formed at the university level. The attachment in the honor societies is of a very special, manner. As a result of the need for exclusivity, all the avenues that may lead to a person being a member of more than one group is prevented. Once somebody has been declared a member of a certain group, he cannot be able to join a different honor society group. The person can only be allowed to join another group once he leaves the former group.
